January is the month when we put aside some time and enjoy the opportunity to participate in retreat. There is nothing better we can do for ourselves and others – especially those we love and care about – than getting our mind into good shape for the year ahead.
Retreat creates around us a special environment it allows us to explore, learn, experience and develop both our spiritual qualities and practical skills for a happier, more confident life.

This series of classes will be based upon one of Buddhism's best-loved teachings, Eight Verses of Training the Mind, by the great Bodhisattva, Langri Tangpa. Clear methods are simply presented for transforming all life's difficulties into valuable spiritual insights, for improving our relationships, and for bringing greater patience, empathy and compassion into our daily life. These methods have inspired generations of Buddhist practitioners for almost a thousand years, and brought lasting peace, inspiration and serenity to countless people. Venerable Geshe Kelsang shares the immeasurably rich insight of this ancient wisdom to help us find greater happiness and meaning in our busy, modern lives.
Since this world evolved, human beings have spent almost all their time and energy improving external conditions in their search for happiness and a solution to their problems. What has been the result? Instead of their wishes being fulfilled, human suffering and problems have continued to increase while the experience of happiness and peace is decreasing. This clearly shows that until now we have not found a correct method for reducing our problems and increasing happiness. The actual correct method for doing this is changing our attitude from negative to positive. - Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
