Nyungne Retreat

£0.00

This special in-depth retreat is held in celebration of Buddha’s Enlightenment Day (15th April). Nyungnay is a powerful purification practice associated with Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion, combining chanted prayers, meditation, and physical prostrations.

It is a profound method for purifying negative karma, pacifying strong delusions such as attachment and anger, and deepening our experience of love, compassion, and bodhichitta.

The retreat begins with taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts, in which we commit for 24 hours to abstain from harmful actions of body, speech, and mind. On the first day, participants eat one simple meal before 1pm, avoiding certain foods. On the second day, those undertaking the full Nyungnay engage in a complete fast, consuming no food or drink for 24 hours.

This retreat is a deeply meaningful opportunity to purify the mind, receive powerful blessings, and strengthen compassion for all living beings.

If you haven’t done this retreat before and would like to attend, please contact the EPC on epc@meditateinsheffield.org.uk for more information and guidance.

About this Retreat

After taking Mahayana Precepts we engage in a day retreat that consists of 3 sessions of beautiful chanted prayers combined with physical prostrations to Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of compassion. It is also a special method for receiving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion, and bodhichitta.

The day begins with taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts. When we take Precepts we promise to abstain for 24 hours from negative actions of body, speech and mind and to eat just one meal avoiding certain food such as meat and spices, to be eaten before 1pm.
